Fisher killed in dynamite explosion in San Remigio

CEBU - A 35-year-old fisherman was killed when the dynamite he used allegedly for fishing exploded Tuesday noon in barangay Tacop, San Remigio town.

Nicandro Jogan Piañar, a resident of the place, sustained fatal injuries in the face and other parts of his body after the dynamite exploded in his hands shortly before he intends to throw into at a school of fish.

Investigation showed that the victim went on fishing with his wife Jenna and their 7-year-old adopted child.

When Nicandro saw a school of fish, he reached for the dynamite and immediately lighted it.

But before he could throw it, the dynamite exploded in his hands, killing him instantly and sinking the boat.

Jenna and the child were, however, unharmed in the incident. They were rescued by some fishermen nearby.

The incident happened only a few hours after 22-year-old Apolonio Andales was pinned to death by a huge coral stone following a dynamite explosion in sitio Sagporon, barangay Suba-Basbas, Lapu-Lapu City. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
