UV maritime college gets ISO certification

The International Organization for Standardization has awarded the University of the Visayas Maritime College and Training Center a 9001:2000 certification, which took effect April this year.

Det Norske Venitas, a Norwegian company certified to issue ISO certifications, awarded the certification to UV after finding “zero major and minor non-conformance” of the college and its training center.

ISO 9001:2000 is an international standard for Quality Management Systems.

The certification boosts the UV Maritime College’s confidence to meet quality requirements and to uphold its image as an environmentally and socially responsible academic unit.

An ISO standard requires that an organization’s QMS holds a wide range of management activities, including the maintenance of a high standard of instruction that ensures that all processes are ran under controlled conditions.

An ISO certification can only be achieved through enhanced clientele confidence and satisfaction including the maintenance of a significant competitive advantage over schools offering the same program.

Many organizations desire to obtain ISO registration because it assures customers that the company has a good QMS in place.

An organization with an effective QMS will typically meet customer expectations better than an organization that does not have an effective QMS.
