3 new CCPO innovations to improve performance

The Cebu City Police Office will be showing off three new innovative projects that will greatly help not only in the anti-crime campaign but also make their office more credible and effective in their task.

These three innovations will be presented during the upcoming regional Annual General Inspection this coming week and on the national AGI this August.

First is the electronic blotter system or e-blotter, a simple networking system for computers of different police stations.

Data in computers of police stations and police units can now be accessed by the operations section in the Camp Sotero Cabahug via Local Area Network system to allow more efficient information storage and dissemination.   The second innovation is the skill and equipment upgrading of the CCPO crime scene operation investigators.  Before, these personnel could not actually perform in-depth analysis in shooting and stabbing incidents unlike their counterparts in the regional police Scene of the Crime Operations.

According to Comendador the CCPO SOCO, now called Crime Scene Investigation Section, were once limited to only gathering latent prints in robberies and burglaries, but not for murder and homicide cases because they lacked the necessary equipment.

Today, the CSIS has better tools to gather evidence and no longer has to wait for the regional SOCO to arrive at the crime scene, the homicide investigators will now today have a counterpart from the CSIS to assist in the investigation of the crime scene.

But since the CSIS still does not have all the needed equipment, the regional SOCO will still do the laboratory examinations.

Forensics personnel are often presented as expert witnesses during trials.

The third innovation is the formation of the CCPO-Medical Response Team composed of policemen who have backgrounds in medical courses.

Comendador said they created this to have their own people who can take care of their personnel without the need of the regional health services of the PNP.

The team is trained by professional emergency medical service organizations on disaster preparedness, first aid and other skills while still doing their primary jobs as policemen.

The AGI inspectors will inspect all police units in the region to see their preparedness particularly the Operational Response and Security Inspection Test Evaluation.

The inspectors will also look into the data of all policemen in these units, including uniforms, firearms, logistical capabilities and maintenance among others.

The CCPO has always been conducting their own mini-AGI in every police station to see to it that they are always ready.

“We have to do our best because if we have to compete we should bear in mind to be always excellent in our performance,” Comendador said.

The CCPO won as Best Police Office in last year’s regional AGI conducted by the Regional Internal Affairs Service-7, they aim to keep the title this year.  Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
