A woman and a girl were hacked to death in barangay Lingigon, Argao town yesterday.
The victims were 24-year-old Jocelyn Gomez and her one-year-and-two-month-old daughter.
SPO1 Arnold Abenir of the Argao Police Station said that it was the husband of the victim who reported the incident to the station.
The husband said that he arrived home from Cebu City at around 5 p.m. yesterday wondering why he received no answer from his wife and daughter after repeatedly calling their names.
At first, he suspected that the two weren’t home, but he noticed that the main door of their house was open.
Horrified upon seeing the body of his wife, he sought the help of his father who lives nearby.
His wife sustained several hack wounds on her face while his daughter was dragged 20 meters away from their house, also with hack wounds all over the girl’s body.
Argao policemen recovered an ax smeared with blood under the couple’s bamboo bed.
His wife also sustained injuries on her knees and that strands of hair were entangled in her hands.
The bodies were subjected to an autopsy while the pieces of evidence were turned over to the PNP crime laboratory.
Police believe that the victim might have been raped before she was killed.
However, they will be conducting further investigation to determine the identity of the perpetrator and establish the motive of the killing. — Joy Kareen T. Saliente/MEEV
