Mall guard shoots vendor to death

-

A cigarette vendor was shot dead by the head guard of a mall along Gen. Maxilom Avenue in barangay Camputhaw last Saturday after the victim reportedly failed to heed a no vending policy in the area.

The victim was identified as Jomar Solon, 27, a resident of Ponce Compound in Oprra, barangay Kalunasan who was hit in the chest that killed him in the process.

Police are now on the hunt for the suspect, Servillano Nemaria, a member of the MISDA Security Agency, assigned as the head guard of the mall. Nemaria also lives in Oprra, Kalunasan.

The common-law wife of the victim, Aurora Torado, 32, told Homicide investigators led by SPO2 Rey Cuyos that the suspect and Solon had a verbal tussle earlier that night after the suspect scolded the victim for allegedly vending in the area.

But the victim reportedly reasoned out he has not violated any policy of the mall as he was selling cigarettes at the waiting shed along the road.

The suspect left but returned with his gun and shot Solon in the chest then fled.

An ambulance happened to pass by the area, and the driver came to help the victim and rushed him to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.     Edwin Ian Melecio/MEEV
