Despite the filing of charges by the National Bureau of Investigation against the suspect in the killing of lawyer Richard Sison, the Cebu City Police Office will not stop its parallel investigation into the murder.
But what surprised the police more than the sudden arrest of the suspect, Nemuel Sumabong, was the fact that the NBI never told them that it has its own cartographic sketch of the suspect.
This sketch, which is different from the police cartograph, was only released after Sumabong was arrested.
In earlier reports, the CCPO announced that they are closely coordinating and “exchanging notes” with the NBI.
But in an interview with dyHP yesterday morning CCPO director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said they did not know of the cartographic sketch of the NBI.
He however did not comment more on the issue and said they will support the charges the NBI has filed against Sumabong who was reportedly positively identified by three witnesses.
Comendador said they have not found any criminal records against Sumabong.
“We didn’t come across his name, wala siya mo-crop up sa among investigation but in fairness to the NBI maybe they have their own information about him,” Comendador said.
Even if the assailant was already arrested and charged, Comendador said the case is not yet considered closed as they still have to find the other accomplices; the driver, the possible mastermind and also the middleman who commonly transacts the murder contract.
“The case is solved in so far as the gunman is concern but it is not yet closed because there is an accomplice and the possible mastermind yet to be identified,” Comendador said.
The CCPO is also waiting for the man who was believed to have taken footage of the ambush.
Task Force Sison has also sought assistance for additional ballisticians from the Dumaguete Crime Laboratory to fast track the examination of the slugs and empty shells recovered at the crime scene. — Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
