One of the two elderly women who were stabbed by their own grandson died a day after the incident while being treated in the hospital for a single stab wound to the right lower back near the waistline.
Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section chief Sr. Insp. Mario Monilar told reporters that Gaudiosa Labrador, 60, died in the hospital last Friday morning.
Labrador was allegedly stabbed by her own grandson Andrel Chan, 21, who is reportedly a drug addict. He was immediately arrested by their neighbors after the incident.
Investigators said Gaudiosa, who was sickly and could barely walk, was arranging her clothes at the second floor of the house when the suspect jumped on her and stabbed her once with a knife.
Gaudiosa shouted for help prompting the suspect to run downstairs where he met his other grandmother Sally Chan, 50, and stabbed her also in the left lower side of the body and ran out of the house, leaving the knife still embedded in Sally’s body.
Neighbors who heard the shouts pursued the suspect until he was cornered by barangay tanods who turned him over to SPO3 Serafin Polinar of the Mobile Patrol Group.
The suspect’s relatives blamed his behavior on pushers peddling drugs and rugby in the area and asked the police to raid the place.
Monilar said cases of parricide and frustrated murder are set to be filed against the suspect tomorrow. — Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
