Cebu Archdiocese collects P1.1M for Oslob church

-

As of May 8, the Cebu Archdiocese has already collected P1,164,000 for the restoration of the Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish Church in  Oslob town that was gutted down by a fire last March.

The said collection is on top of Oslob Church’s collection of P843,969.

However, it is a very long way to go as the restoration is estimated to cost P30 million. Oslob parish priest Fr. Valentino Gemelo said the aid given by the Archdiocese of Cebu from second collections during Masses celebrated on Sundays is a very big help.

The University of the Visayas Chorale will also conduct a concert dubbed “Bulawanong Dalit alang sa Oslob” in SM Cinema One on May 24 to raise funds for the restoration of the church.

UV Executive Vice President Jose Gullas offered the services of the UV Chorale to the Oslob parish through the Cebu Archdiocese as one way of expressing their gratitude for all the blessings that they have received.

UV Alumni association head Pat Acabodillo said that the proceeds will be personally turned over by Gullas in June while the UV Chorale will regale residents of Oslob with a mini-concert.

The UV Chorale has competed in different local and international competitions, the most recent of which was the November 2007 Busan Choral Festival Competition in Busan, South Korea, where the group won silver and bronze medals in both the ethnic and classical categories respectively.   Tickets for the May 24 concert can be bought at the Archbishop’s Palace.  — Jasmin R.
