Dead man’s body found in deep well

The dead body of a 28-year-old man was found floating in a deep well at barangay Punta Princesa at around noon yesterday.

A resident, who was about to take a bath in the well, saw the body and quickly called his neighbors and the police for assistance. The Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation members arrived and took the corpse out of the well using pulleys.

SPO2 Rogelio Cañete of the Punta Princesa Police Station said the victim Jonas Abadilla, a resident of barangay Labangon, was seen the night before running frantically around the place, telling everyone that somebody was chasing and wanting to kill him.

Abadilla’s acquaintance, Jonathan, also said that the victim went out of the house at around 1am and seemed to be uneasy.

Homicide investigator SPO4 Alex Dacua said  it was an accident, as there was no sign of violence. The well, described as 6 feet deep with a jar-shaped bottom, can only fit one person. It is located along a narrow pathway between two houses.

Dacua believed that Abadilla might have fell on the well without anybody noticing him. He added that the victim’s mother admitted that her son had been using illegal drugs and, since then, had been suffering from nervous breakdown. — Queenie Chariz Dayanan, CNU-intern/RAE
