Helper accidentally shoots nanny; vendor stabbed dead

A 24-year-old woman who works as nanny in barangay Don Andres Soriano, Toledo City is now in critical condition after a fellow household help accidentally shot her in the head the other night.

The victim was identified as Marilyn Calipay, while the suspect was identified as Louie John Roxas, 25, helper of a variety store owned by their employer.

According to the investigation conducted by PO2 Alfredo Barquin, the incident happened at around 10 p.m. Calipay was said to be taking care of her ward while watching television when Roxas who was about to eat supper saw a .22 caliber firearm placed on the chair. The gun is reportedly owned by their employer.

“Iya mang gikuha ang armas gikan sa lingkoranan, nya kay nakablit man niya ang gatilyo hinungdan nga aksidenteng mibuto,” the police said.

The victim was immediately rushed to the South General Hospital in Minglanilla town, while the suspect voluntarily surrendered to authorities. He is now detained at the Toledo City Police Station pending appropriate charges to be filed against him.

Meanwhile, a tuba vendor was stabbed dead by a trisikad driver in sitio Bontores, barangay Basak-San Nicolas yesterday morning.

The victim was identified as 51-year-old Antonio Alsola, while the suspect was identified as Edgardo Sabroso, 28.

According to the investigation, the victim was standing in front of his store when the suspect approached him and stabbed him several times, hitting him in the left chest and in the neck.

The victim was then rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center, but expired minutes later because of the fatal wounds he sustained. The suspect was arrested by barangay tanods who were conducting a roving in the area. He is now detained temporarily at Police Station 11.

Further investigation said prior to the incident, the suspect and the victim had a heated altercation. — Garry B. Lao/MEEV
