Man mauled to death by 3 younger brothers

A 33-year-old man was mauled to death by his own brothers after watching on TV the Pacquiao-Marquez championship bout at barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City Sunday afternoon.

Police identified the fatality as Adelino Pino, who died of severe head injuries a few hours at the hospital where he was taken by relatives after he was beaten up and struck with a rock by his three younger brothers, Christopher, 31, Roberto, 28, and Restituto,21.

Investigations showed that Adelino and his brothers were having a drink while watching the boxing match.

While the country was celebrating the Filipino boxer’s victory, the Pino brothers had a heated argument among themselves. The police said it was unclear yet if the argument was about the outcome of the boxing bout, but they received reports that it was Christopher who went wild and even threatened to kill all his brothers.

Adelino, being the eldest, immediately warned Christopher to stop but the latter reportedly got wilder, prompting Adelino to pick up a piece of wood and strike Christopher’s head.

The two younger siblings, Roberto and Restituto, upon seeing Christopher’s injuries, got mad and ganged up on Adelino with a flurry of punches. Adelino tried to ward off his brothers with the piece of wood but he was overpowered and severely beaten up instead.

Adelino fell but his brothers allegedly continued mauling him and that one of them even took a rock and smashed it on his head, said the police report.

Adelino was rushed to the hospital but he died few hours later. Christopher and Roberto, who also had cuts on their heads, surrendered to the police and were also treated at the hospital with Restituto. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
