NBI files charges vs. 3 for prohibited drugs

The National Bureau of Investigation filed charges against a pregnant woman branded as the “shabu queen” and her alleged drug dealers in Pinamungajan town who were arrested last Thursday.

The NBI filed before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office a case for violation of Section 5 of the Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, against Amelina Vergara.

A separate case for possession of illegal drugs was also filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against Ryan Norteza, Vergara’s alleged drug dealer in barangay Tutay, Pinamungajan.

Norteza was arrested in the NBI raid Thursday dawn in Pinamungajan while Vergara was caught in a follow-up entrapment operation in barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

Vergara, who is nine months pregnant, reportedly sold P40,000 worth of shabu to an NBI undercover agent during the operation. She is allegedly supplying illegal drugs to Norteza and a certain Romeo Bayking.

Bayking eluded arrest during the NBI raid in Pinamungajan but a pack of shabu and several drug paraphernalia were seized from his residence.

The NBI operatives swooped down on the houses of Norteza and Bayking based on the search warrant issued by Judge Cesar Estrera of Regional Trial Court Branch 29 in Toledo City for their alleged drug activities.

The operation was made upon the request of Cebu third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia and the barangay captain of Tutay. Intelligence reports had it that Norteza and Bayking are enjoying protection from some officials of the town. — Fred P. Languido/LPM
