Guv approves Bogo request for Capitol to asphalt road

-

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday approved a request from the Bogo City Council for the province to rehabilitate a road that connects two barangays in the city despite having differences with city officials.

“I am very happy to receive this resolution with open arms,” Garcia said.

The resolution was among the first documents that Garcia received when she arrived from a trip to Dubai and the governor promised to attend to it immediately proving that she does not choose the areas she will help.

In a resolution, Bogo Mayor Celestino “Junnie” Martinez Jr. and Vice Mayor Santiago Sevilla requested Garcia to undertake the asphalt paving of the Pandan-Odlot provincial road in the city.

The provincial road stretches for about nine kilometers and connects barangays Pandan and Odlot.

“The road is a part of a major network that interlinks a number of barangays other than the two providing dependable pathway for moving people and goods through the years,” the resolution stated.

Martinez is a known critic of Garcia but the governor explained that it is improper to deprive towns or cities from infrastructure projects despite political differences.

Supposedly, towns that have been converted into component cities will be the ones to take care of provincial roads but since the city officials requested for it, Garcia said that she was “glad to asphalt this road” for the benefit of her constituents in the province.

Asked if that could be the start of the reconciliation between her and the Martinezes, she replied: “I have always shown proper respect to all elected public officials because whether we belong to other parties, all of us are elected by the people.” — Gerome M. Dalipe/QSB
