Two persons were killed while three others were hurt after a tricycle was hit by a mini-bus in barangay Inayagan, Naga City, early yesterday.
The fatalities were identified as tricycle driver Ricardo Barikit of Tuyan, Naga City, and Maria Luisa Singco while the injured were identified as Angel Cabarrubias, 26; Gwendolyn Laput, 20; and Carmi Virao, 25.
SPO1 Buenvenido Santos said Barikit made a U-turn in Inayagan, directly in the path of the speeding mini-bus driven by a certain Amelito Carbonel who was coming from Sibonga town.
“Kusog man kaayo ang pagpadagan sa mini-bus unya timing pud nag U-turn ang tricycle, diha dayon nahitabo ang disgrasya,” Santos said.
The tricycle was totaled, but the driver of the mini-bus escaped unscathed.
Barikit was killed instantly, while Singco and the others, who sustained multiple head and body injuries, were rushed to the South General Hospital where Singco later died.
Santos said that if Carbonel did not drive so fast, the accident could have been prevented.
The collision also damaged a private truck owned by Dario Ubas, but Ubas was unhurt.
After the incident, Carbonel drove himself to Minglanilla town and surrendered himself to the police there. — Garry B. Lao/BRP
