A carpenter, while sleeping in his bunk at a construction site, was stabbed by a former construction worker Saturday evening.
The victim, Remegio Degracia, got a stab wound in his left shoulder near the base of his neck, was rushed to the Perpetual Succour Hospital and later moved to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Police homicide investigators said the assailant was Joel Capadeso, a former construction worker who was fired from his job reportedly because of misdeeds but might have blamed Degracia to be behind the loss of his job.
Both the victim and the assailant hail from Iligan City, said PO3 Rogelio Nedamo adding that Capadeso might have a personal grudge against Degracia.
Investigations showed that, amid heavy rain while the workers were sleeping in their bunks inside the Cebu Tower construction site along Osmeña Boulevard, Capadeso sneaked in, went to the sleeping Degracia, and stabbed the latter with a knife.
Other people in the area heard the commotion and tried vainly to stop Capadeso from escaping after the attack. Two workers took Degracia to the hospital.
There have been no reports yet on how the attacker was able to enter the site and the workers’ bunks even if he was no longer working in the construction. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
