A member of the Bureau of Fire Protection was shot dead by the brother of a man he once considered his enemy while he was drinking beside Holy Name Street, barangay Banilad, yesterday dawn.
Police responders found the dead body of the victim identified as SFO2 Wenceslao Opone, 44, sprawled on the road.
Opone was a fireman assigned to the Department of Interior and Local Government Patrol 117 and a resident of Opone Compound, Maria Luisa Village, Banilad.
Based on the account of witness Geryl Boukeron, 38, a resident in the area, police identified the suspect as Ronald Ocampo, alias “Adod”, allegedly the son of a barangay councilor and a resident of Ouano Compound of the same barangay.
The victim was killed instantly after being shot with a .45 cal. pistol in the head and chest. Responding policemen found two spent shells and one live bullet at the crime scene.
According to Boukeron, they were having a drinking session at the side of the road when the assailant passed by and the victim offered him a glass of liquor.
PO3 Rogelio Nedamo of the Homicide Section said that the victim jokingly told the suspect: “Pusila ko ninyo Dod.”
The suspect casually replied “wala oy” and then walked away, moments later the assailant came back already armed with handgun and shot the victim several times.
Nedamo said, last April this year, the victim filed charges against the brother of the assailant identified as Ricky. Police believed that the joke thrown by the victim to the suspect could be related to the said case. — Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
