Council commends honest taxi driver

The Cebu City Council commended taxi driver Tadeo Camacho for honesty when he turned over to Mayor Tomas Osmeña the valuables left by a Japanese passenger in his taxi.

The Japanese man, Kageyama Masatoshimar, took Camacho’s taxi at the Mactan Cebu International Airport and asked Camacho to take him to the city’s port area.

Minutes after Masatoshimar disembarked from the taxi and disappeared in the crowd at the pier, Camacho noticed that his passenger left behind a bag that he later found to contain cash amounting to 21,000 yen, Sanyo cellular phone, Casio electronic organizer, Sony digital camera, and passport.

Councilor Edgardo Labella said that Camacho’s act of honesty, in the face of tempting situation in these hard times, was undeniably worthy of emulation by all Cebuanos.

The City Council also recognized taxi operator Paul Corominas for selecting employees and drivers who are imbued with honesty and sincerity in serving their customers.

Labella, in moving for the commendation, said the act of Camacho will “definitely stir a positive ripple in the local tourism industry since taxis manned by honest drivers will tend to create a lasting multiplier effect on drawing in domestic and foreign visitors.” — Rene U. Borromeo/RAE
