A man was gunned down in a vigilante-style killing while he was talking to a friend last Sunday evening in Hillsview Village, barangay Tisa, Cebu City.
The victim who was killed on the spot after being shot several times was identified as Frederick Sagon, 28, a resident of the said place.
Based on the investigation conducted by PO3 Roger Nedamo, the victim was sitting on a bamboo bench talking with his neighbor Dondon Bordo when two men wearing jackets and bonnets approached them and shot the victim as Bordo ran for safety.
The assailants still shot the victim even as he lay there on the ground.
Both men immediately fled on foot after the incident towards sitio Mohon in barangay Tisa.
The victim sustained gunshot wounds in the head, chest and both his shoulders.Police were recovered two deformed slugs and four shells of a .45 cal. pistol at the crime scene.
JO1 Catherine Sintos of the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center said the victim has been jailed four times already.The first was in May 10, 1999 for theft, but he was released in August 12 after the case was dismissed in court.
In November 11 on the same year he was again back in jail for robbery and was released after serving his sentence in February 10, 2000.
He was back in jail last June 3, 2003 for another robbery case and released again in November 4, 2005.
But again in January 4,2006 he was jailed for illegal possession of firearms and was released in January 10, 2007 after he was able to secure a probation in court.
Homicide Section chiefMario Monilar said they have yet to confirm if the victim was involved in illegal activities in the area.He also said they have not determined if he was a victim of so-called vigilantes operating in the city.— Flor Z. Perolina/BRP
