The Provincial Development Council is endorsing before the Regional Development Council the construction of a multi-billion trans-axial highway to unite Cebu province.
Provincial Board member Victor Maambong, who sponsored the resolution approved en masse motion, said the members of the PDC supports the “vision and mission” of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez” in embarking on the P33.35 billion trans-axial highway.
The project will cast a wider net in search for a suitable contractor that will work on the island-long road network in a build-operate-transfer scheme within the next six-years.
Garcia said the project will connect the province’s northernmost town of Daanbantayan to Santander in the south, bisecting
the island and connecting to the 47 towns and six cities via feeder roads.
Since it will be a BOT project, the winning contractor will operate it as a toll road, the governor said.
The trans-axial highway is envisioned as a four-lane, 300-kilometer highway along the highland sector of mainland Cebu from Poblacion, Santander up to Maya, Daanbantayan. It is also seen to have water, wind power and agro-environmental components. — Garry B. Lao/BRP
