Videoke customer shoots, wounds owner after fight over a woman

An argument over a woman might have drawn a frequent customer to shoot three times a videoke store owner at sitio Pag-utlan in barangay Yati, Liloan Thursday dawn.

Liloan policeman, SPO1 Jose Martinez said the victim was Benito Alba Jr, a resident of barangay Basak in Mandaue City, who suffered gunshot wounds in his lower right ear, right armpit, and right arm.

The bullet that hit Alba’s right ear exited through his right cheek, and one more bullet grazed his forehead. A physician said the victim is now in serious condition, according to the police report.

The customer and alleged attacker, identified only as a certain Kim, did not just try to kill Alba but also took with him in his escape the victim’s girlfriend, Jennifer Flores, who also managed the videoke store.

The Liloan Police quickly responded to the alarm and was able to get back Flores but failed to arrest the suspected assailant.

Martinez said the police had to release Flores because she testified, during a tactical interrogation, that she was only forced to go with the suspect because he was pointing a firearm at her. The police are now working for the arrest of the suspect.

Earlier police reports stated that Alba had just finished singing a song inside his store and had gone into the comfort room to urinate when the suspect followed and shot him several times there.

Investigators said that the past days, Alba and the suspect always argued with each other, especially after the victim learned from his employees that the suspect was also courting Flores. — Flor Z. Perolina/RAE
