The P1-million reward for the capture of PO1 Arnulfo Pigon Jr., who is accused of shooting dead Sta. Fe mayoralty candidate Rogelio Illustrisimo Sr. last May 2 cannot be released yet following his voluntary surrender.

Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. said that Pigon has yet to face trial in court.

"Di pa mahatag kay di pa man gyud na siya mao, unya na og may conviction," Sanchez said.

After his surrender to the Department of Justice Pigon claimed that he was just a fall guy and accused the police of mishandling the case because they were after the bounty.

Aside from the P1 million offered by the Capitol chargeable against the intelligence fund of Governor Gwen Garcia, P300,000 was also offered by the Cebu City government.

Earlier, Cebu City police director, Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, also the head of the Task Force Illustrisimo, reportedly said that the positive identification of the witness pointing Pigon as the killer meant they are right about him.

The main witness positively identified Pigon, who was shown in the evening news recently, as the one who killed the victim.

Pigon said that he was in Antipolo City, Rizal province, when the killing happened inside the Cebu Provincial Capitol compound on the morning of May 2.

Aside from Pigon, the police have also filed a murder case against Illustrisimo's rival candidate, Domingo Zaspa as the co-conspirator for direct participation in committing the crime.

Zaspa also denied the accusations against him and threatened to file counter charges against those who maligned his name.   - Gregg M. Rubio/BRP
