Carcar vice mayor claims rival tried to buy him off

Carcar Vice Mayor Rogelio Montesclaros has accused Valladolid barangay captain Nicepuro Apura of trying to bribe him to leave Kampi and join the Alayon Party slate as candidate for councilor.

Montesclaros, who is running for reelection under the Kampi Party claimed he was bribed by Apura through a text message sent by councilman Roy Velez last January asking him to give up the race and switch sides for P500,000.

Velez allegedly told Montesclaros to keep the matter confidential since he is just an emissary of the offer.

He claimed receiving the message last January 6 but decided not to reveal it yet.

But Apura denied the allegation and said Montesclaros was only attracting attention to his candidacy. Apura said he has no reason to bribe Montesclaros because their slate was already fixed since last year.

Apura also challenged Montesclaros to present his platform so the people of Carcar can decided who between them has the best. - Jacques A. Lora, UP Masscom intern/BRP
