A 28-year-old man escaped from the custody of the barangay tanods in Bulwang, Compostela town after he was arrested for allegedly smoking marijuana early Sunday.
Ronilo Hermoso, alias Baloloy, was arrested by chief tanod Edgardo Batarilan and tanod Carlos Aguilar during a benefit dance in the area for allegedly smoking a hand-rolled stick of marijuana.
But Hermoso, a resident of sitio Sulpot, barangay Sabang, Danao City, then slipped into the darkness to escape while under the custody of the chief tanod.
Bulwang barangay captain Venancio Englisa and the barangay tanods only turned over to the Compostela Police Station the suspected marijuana stick that the suspect had left half-consumed.
Police said the confiscated evidence is subject for examination at the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory. - Efmer Agustin, Kareen Saliente, and Niña Sumacot, UP Tacloban interns/LPM
