Two men stabbed in fights after drinks

A drunken argument was the common cause in the separate stabbing of two men, one in barangay Mangyan, Sibonga town, last Saturday night and the other in barangay Maslog, Danao City, last Friday night.

Francis Jade delos Reyes, 30, the victim in the Saturday stabbing however was not one of the two arguing drinking buddies. He got stabbed for trying to pacify the two, and is now in serious condition in the Carcar District Hospital.

The suspected assailant, 25-year-old Dolphy Olanda, stabbed Delos Reyes with a knife in the left cheek before fleeing from the scene and is now at large.

Sibonga police investigators said that Olanda, believed to be drunk already, was arguing with his companion when Delos Reyes passed by.

Delos Reyes stopped to pacify the two but Olanda turned to him and the argument shifted to between the two of them. Olanda then pulled out a knife from his waist and stabbed Delos Reyes.

In Danao City, Allan Perez, 30 and Daryl Avila, 25, were having a drink when they suddenly got into an argument and Avila attacked Perez.

Avila stabbed Perez in the abdomen and back. Perez is now fighting for his life in a hospital in Cebu City while Avila escaped and is now being hunted by the police.

The police however have yet to ascertain the cause of the altercation between them because they are neighbors in the barangay and have been seen drinking together many times. —Flor Z. Perolina/RAE
