A barangay captain in Argao town was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group after police found unlicensed firearms and assorted ammunition in his house last Friday afternoon.
Men led by Chief Insp. Fermin Armendares III, armed with a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 9 Judge, Geraldine Faith Econg arrested Panadtaran barangay captain Ruben Villaroma, 51.
Armedares told The Freeman that the raid was conducted after receiving reports that a wanted man they were looking for was frequenting the official's house.
The wanted man was a certain "Omboy", who was tagged as the one who shot PO3 Artemio Tumakay of the Provincial Investigation and Intelligence Branch last year while their team was trying to arrest him.
Based on the said information, Armendares said they applied for a search warrant since the suspect is reportedly armed and dangerous and is seen with a gun every time he visits the said place.
The CIDG men failed to find Omboy and found instead a homemade shotgun, a KG-99 submachine gun and ammunition for a 9mm pistol, .45 cal pistol, shotgun, Armalite rifle and KG-99.
The official was arrested after he failed to show pertinent papers for possessing the said firearms and ammunition. - Edwin Ian Melecio
