Wanted man found dead in Daanbantayan town

A man long wanted for murder was found dead with several gunshot wounds in sitio Anapog, barangay Tinubdan, Daanbantayan town Friday afternoon.

Police identified the fatality as Bernan Sontousidad, a resident of the place. He is one of the most wanted persons in the town.

SPO1 Nero Mansanares, PO2 Brecio Orquez and PO1 Dario Coyoca immediately went to barangay Tinubdan following a call from Barangay Captain Juanito Ybañez about 6:30 p.m. over the discovery of Sontousidad's body.

Initial police investigation revealed that the victim was alone at the house of his live-in partner when neighbors heard a burst of gunfire about 6 p.m.

A few minutes later, the neighbors found the dead body of the victim at the back of the house about 30 meters away with gunshot wounds in his right leg and left wrist.

PO1 Ryan Castro yesterday told The Freeman that Sontousidad succumbed to loss of blood, adding that the victim probably crawled after being hit in a bid to flee from his assailant.

Castro said Sontousidad was on top of their list of the most wanted persons in the town and was never been arrested for his case until he was killed on Friday.

Police did not discount the possibility that the motive of the killing was personal grudge. However, a follow-up investigation is still being conducted to determine the real cause of the incident and to identify the assailant. - Norvie S. Misa/LPM
