PIIB to be split into two offices

The chief of the Provincial Intelligence and Investigation Branch of the Cebu Provincial Police Office yesterday said the intelligence and investigation functions of the office here, as well as others in other provinces, will soon be separated.

PIIB chief P/Supt. Juanito Enguerra yesterday said they are just waiting for the memorandum to be issued by the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division of the Police Regional Office-7.

"Naa nay instruction ani pero ang order nalang ang kulang, unya naghuwat pud mi sa memo sa R2", he said, referring to the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division.

The change will be implemented nationwide.

By police definition, intelligence operations encompass what happens before police operations -as well as intelligence gathering and serving of search and arrest warrants. Investigation normally refers to the activities after a police operation or a crime.

The investigation section will be named the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Section while the intelligence section will be the Provincial Intelligence Branch.

Enguerra will head the PIB while S/Supt. Vicente Loot has yet to assign the head of the investigation section. - Norvie S. Misa/BRP
