Council sets aside P8M for 2007 Sinulog prizes

The city council yesterday approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Tomas Osmeña to sign a memorandum of agreement with Sinulog Foundation Inc. for the city's P8 million financial aid for the 2007 Sinulog.

The bulk of the assistance would go to the prizes for the Sinulog mardi gras, on January 21, both for the Sinulog-based and free-interpretation contests.

Each of the contest's categories are allocated a total of P1.25 million, distributed as follows: First prize at P500,000; second price at P300,000; third prize at P200,000; fourth prize at P150,000; and fifth prize at P100,000.

The assistance also covers P2 million as subsidy for 20 participating schools for the Sinulog sa Lalawigan and Dakbayan contests.

Another P1 million has been appropriated also for prizes of the street dancing competition.

The rest of the allocated fund aid covers P100,000 each for eight consistent out-of town contingents: Camiguin, Ozamis City, Iligan City, Sibulan, Negros Oriental, Tangub City, Bayawan City, Surigao del Norte, and San Carlos City.

Prizes for Sinulog sa Kabataan-Lalawigan and Dakbayan, both for elementary and high divisions, have a budget of P460,000 while the stage decoration has an allocation of P200,000.
