Man accused of rape attempt

A 36-year-old man was arrested by policemen after allegedly trying to rape a 15-year-old girl in sitio Sambagan, barangay Dapitan, Cordova town, late Thursday night.
The responding policemen of Cordova Police Station led by PO1 Arnel Cresente arrested Rolando Sumalinog alias "Andoy", a resident of the place, after he was identified by the intended victim.
The girl alleged that at about 11 p.m. that night Sumalinog destroyed the ceiling of their house and went to her room.
She further said she was awakened by the suspect touching her in different parts of her body and he threatened to kill her if she will not give into his lust.
However, she was able to shout for help and mother rushed to her room.
Desk officer of Cordova Police Station SPO1 Laurencio Wagwag said the responding policemen were able to track down the suspect after positive identification by the victim, he is now detained at the police station.
However, the suspect denied the allegations against him, Wagwag said.
