Mambaling shooting leaves 2 men injured

Two persons were injured, one of them now in critical condition, during a shooting incident in sitio Nava, barangay Alaska Mambaling yesterday morning.

The victims were identified as Jojo Mejares, 22, a resident of Bliss, Alaska Mambaling, and Ronel Taus, 24, a trisikad driver who also resides in the area. The assailant, whom police still failed to identify, wore a cap and a jacket.

Initial investigation conducted by responding elements of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office revealed that prior to the incident, Taus was waiting for a passenger while Mejares was playing "hantak."

The gunman then emerged and opened fire using an undetermined caliber of firearm, hitting Mejares in the neck and arm. A stray bullet hit Taus in the hip although he was still able to run.

Both victims were rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center where Mejares is now fighting for his life.

PO3 Roger Nedamo yesterday told reporters that it was Mejares who was the main target of the assailant, adding that the motive of the shooting was personal grudge. - Norvie S. Misa
