Bolo warns school execs on firecrackers

Provincial Board Member Juan Bolo is warning all principals and supervisors not to allow the selling of firecrackers within the vicinity of public schools in the province.

Bolo's warning was contained in a resolution he filed before the PB, as he took notice of the habit of using firecrackers as Filipinos' way of celebrating Christmas and New Year.

Such practice has been attributed to the belief that having a noisy celebration during the New Year's Eve will ward off negative vibes.

However, Bolo said firecrackers are considered dangerous so that schoolchildren must be warned of the danger of using pyrotechnics.

He added that they must also be prevented from getting into contact with peddlers of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic products.

"Their principals and supervisors are considered to be their second parents while they are attending to school or are within the school premises and they have the duty to ensure these children are safe and far from harms way," Bolo's proposed resolution read. - Cristina C. Birondo/LPM
