Mandaue factory fire losses pegged at P1.4M

The fire that destroyed a rattan furniture factory in barangay Tabok, Mandaue City, last Saturday night, caused alosses estimated at P1.4 million.
This was the statement of SFO1 Roy Garcia of the Mandaue City Fire Station yesterday when he gave further details of the fire that struck Country Craft International Corporation at about 9:05 p.m.
The fire started at the finishing section of the factory, made mostly of light materials, and raged until midnight but the concrete wall around the compound prevented the blaze from spreading to the densely populated neighborhood, said Garcia.
Garcia also said that there were no casualties or injuries reported as he denied previous reports that there were people trapped in the compound when the fire broke out.
The company has about 1,000 workers, most of whom are living with their families in bunkhouses, inside its factory compound.
