Fire eats up room of Sta. Fe resort

-
One of the rooms of a beach resort located in barangay Talisay, Santa Fe town in Bantayan Island was gutted down by fire Wednesday afternoon. Damage was placed at P150,000.

Room 23 of Marlin's Beach Resort, owned by a certain Juvy Zaspa, was partially burned after it was hit by fire the other day. Resort staff and occupants were already able to control the fire before responding firemen from the Bantayan Fire Station arrived at the fire scene.

Bantayan Fire marshall SFO1 Ricardo Tamis yesterday told The FREEMAN that the fire started at 1:30 p.m., but that the station was only able to receive the alarm at 1:45 p.m. through a telephone call. He said that though said resort was made of concrete materials, things inside room 23 were totally burned. Further, he said that they are still conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the cause of the fire that razed room 23 occupied by seven persons.

Tamis cited that the fire incident was the first alarm they received this month.

Based on the spot report received by the Operations Branch of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, the seven occupants were supposed to leave the room for an island hopping activity. But that later on, they noticed that the room was already on fire.

SPO1 Antonio Illut of the Santa Fe Police station yesterday told The FREEMAN that the corporate manager of the resort identified as Joan Zaspa, a sister of the owner, went to their station to report on the incident and cited of a P150,000 damage to properties.

Illut further said that the occupants of room 23 were all Filipinos employed at a comedy bar along Gen. Maxilom Avenue, Cebu City.
