DepEd pushing distance learning for HS students

-
The Department of Education is working on an alternative approach to provide secondary students access to quality secondary education -through distance learning.

Distance learning allows students belonging to marginalized families to pursue basic education, and maybe higher education, to help alleviate their economic status. It utilizes self-learning modules designed to make learning easy and interesting.

The Special Education Division of the Bureau of Secondary Education has started working on the development of the Distance Learning Modules.

A non-graded set of learning competencies has been developed in English, Science, Mathematics and Filipino.

Evaluation takes a continuous process to determine the ability and readiness of the children to take the Philippine Education Placement Test.

The result of the PEPT determines his acceleration to a certain extent in the educational ladder that provides opportunity for the students to go back into the mainstream of formal education.

Distance learning system is flexible, students can go over the modules as needed for more and better comprehension, reinforcement or mastery. They can work on the modules at their own pace, although a time limit is set for every module. - Jasmin R. Uy/BRP
