Citom Board hits construction works that cause traffic snarl

-
The City Traffic Operations Management has reacted to the piling of construction materials along corner Leon Kilat and P. del Rosario streets that had caused traffic congestion in the area.

These materials were piled by the roadside outside a construction site of a building, reportedly owned by a city councilor, and forced motorists to veer to the middle of the road causing traffic jam in the process.

The city councilor referred to as the owner of the building under construction is Rodrigo Abellanosa, who reportedly intended to put up a school in that high-rise building.

This matter was deliberated in the Citom board meeting prompting regional director Rogelio "Jingjing" Osmeña, of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, to dare the traffic enforcers to do something about it.

"Dakpa ninyo ang driver sa truck, i-impound ninyo ang sakyanan ug imbargoha ang mga kabilya nga gibutang sa karsada. Ngano, mahadlok mo og konsehal?" Osmeña told Citom in the meeting.

Citom executive officer Arnel Tancinco said the piling of steel bars by the roadside last Monday was illegal, aside from causing heavy traffic in the area.

Tancinco said it would be better for Abellanosa's contractor to unload construction materials at night and dispose these immediately so as not to disrupt the traffic flow the following day.

Last Monday morning, the construction workers were still taking out from the road the piles of steel bars. "Amo sila nga gibadlong nga dili na usbon, apan pagka Martes miusab na pod," Tancinco told the Citom board members.

The board decided to let Tancinco communicate with Abellanosa on the matter so the latter could advise his contractor to follow prevailing laws.

Tancinco was also told to inform the Office of the Building Official about the infraction that the contractor has committed and the traffic problem it caused in the area. - Rene U. Borromeo/RAE
