An 84-year-old man died after being hit by a car while crossing the road in barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla town Sunday morning.
Apolinario Cabaluna, a resident of the town's barangay Tungkil, died at a Cebu City hospital hours after he was hit by a black Pajero Turbo, bearing plate number JCV 104, driven by Dr. Jose Torres, a resident of Carcar town.
Initial police investigation revealed that Cabaluna was crossing the road when accidentally hit by the vehicle, which was bound for Cebu City, about 9:10 a.m.
Torres and a certain Richard Dejinas who witnessed the incident rushed the victim, who sustained injuries in different parts of his body, to the hospital.
However, at about 11:30 a.m., the Minglanilla Police Station received a telephone call from the social welfare office of the hospital that the victim died while undergoing treatment.
PO1 Abraham De Jesus yesterday told The FREEMAN that Torres went to the station saying that he would shoulder the victim's expenses. De Jesus added that they are still conducting follow-up investigation into the incident.
He said the victim's relatives have yet to come to the station to file formal complaint against the doctor. - Norvie S. Misa/LPM
