September 25, 2006 | 12:00am
As of August this year, the People's Law Enforcement Board entertained seven complaints against alleged erring policemen in the city.
A report on the status of the cases posted at the city government's official website revealed that the cases are undergoing formal hearings and were filed since January this year. The complaints range from conduct unbecoming of a police officer, grave threats, gross misconduct, physical injuries and attempted extortion.
The respondents come from different police agencies and stations in Metro Cebu - one from the Capitol detachment of the city police, two from the traffic group, one from a police station in Parian, one from the Mandaue Police station, one from the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch and one from the Fuente Police station.
The FREEMAN is withholding the names of the respondents pending investigation of the complaints.
PLEB was created by virtue of Republic Act 6975 or the Act establishing the Philippine National Police under a reorganized Department of Interior and Local Government.
Its primary functions include investigating and deciding on complaints initiated by the public against erring members of the PNP and to do other functions required by the city government relative to peace and development.
