An eight-year-old boy was killed after being bumped by a passenger bus while playing along the street in barangay Pasil, Santander town last Sunday morning.
Jomero Saguban, a resident of the place and a Grade One pupil of Santander Elementary School, died after he was hit by a Ceres Bus bearing body number 7406 and driven by Nestor Abrahan Catamora, a native of Bacong, Negros Oriental.
Saguban was rushed to the Oslob District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician while Catamora surrendered to the Oslob Police Station. The driver was later turned over to Santander Police Station.
PO1 Dionilo Lapera of the Santander police told The FREEMAN yesterday that the victim was playing with two other kids along the street when the incident happened.
Lapera said the victim, who was being chased by his playmates, suddenly attempted to cross the highway but did not notice the approaching bus bound for Cebu City.
He added that Saguban's relatives did not file charges against Catamora after the driver promised to shoulder the victim's burial expenses. - Norvie S. Misa/LPM
