Fisherman saves unidentified, lone man chained to a banca

-
A fisherman rescued an unidentified man, riding alone on a banca but whose right ankle was chained to the vessel off the seawaters of barangay Southern Poblacion, San Francisco in Camotes Island Wednesday afternoon.

The rescued man was taken to councilman Luis Formentera but would not answer to any one about who he was and from where he came from.

Formentera later turned over the man to the San Francisco Police but still he refused to provide any information about himself.

Town policeman on duty, SPO1 Virgilio Concepcion, told The Freeman the man however wrote "Sanny Aton" on a piece of paper when pressed for some information but did not say what he meant about those words.

When police interns later interrogated him, the man reportedly said he was from Madridejos town but still the police had doubts on the veracity of this piece of information.

The policemen believed the man could be mentally incapacitated because he at times stripped himself although he never acted violently.

The also theorized that someone might have chained him to the banca but he escaped and moved the vessel to the seas.

Concepcion described the man as in his past 30s with straight hair, tanned, medium built, about 5'4'' tall, and wearing blue shorts and shirt.

The police put the man in custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. - Norvie S. Misa/RAE
