NTC forms text spam panel to tackle subscribers' plaints

The National Telecommunications Commission has finally created a text spam committee, in which cellular phone subscribers can file complaints about spam or unsolicited promotional text messages from network providers.

NTC-7 regional director Danny Sy said that on Tuesday the regional text spam committee for Central Visayas will also be created that will provide subscribers a venue for filing complaints against unwanted text messages.

A spam is an unwanted text message for marketing a certain product and sent to a subscriber who has not requested for such a message.

A complainant is required to submit to the committee the cellphone unit showing the spam, and his or her identification card.

The committee will then order the respondent to appear and submit the text data record, and explain in writing within five days from receipt of the order why it should not be administratively penalized for such infractions. - Rene U. Borromeo
