The Department of Education has started the investigation against a public school teacher who reportedly punched two of her students at the Garing Elementary School in Consolacion, Cebu.
In an interview over TV Patrol Cebu, DepEd Cebu province division superintendent Recaredo Borgonia said they already asked Alice Ibale to answer the complaints against her.
Borgonia said despite earlier admission by the teacher, she should be given due process. Ibale reportedly got mad after the two students teased her for reasons that were "too personal" to reveal.
In another development the principal of Tigbawan Elementary School in Tabuelan town was also accused of slapping a 13-year-old neighbor last Wednesday. The incident was reported to the Tabuelan police station by the parents of the victim.
Vivian Maglasang earlier admitted having slapped the teenager after the teenager teased her son, causing him to panic and suffer an asthma attack.
Meanwhile, in Cebu City, the parents of a 10-year-old student of Bagong Lipunan Elementary School in barangay Mabolo refused to file charges against a public school teacher for physical injuries.
This was according to school principal Howard Devilleres who said the parents of Renalyn Abrigana signed the settlement with Ana Maria Olivar, a grade four teacher.
Olivar allegedly threw a decorative shell that hit Abrigana in the nose. She later had to be hospitalized but was discharged last Wednesday.
Devilleres said parents of the victim signed the settlement after the teacher admitted it was all her fault and paid the hospital bills.
"Actually dili gyud siya ang akong labayon naglagot lang ko nga dili gyud patuo ang ubang students nga moapil sa flag ceremony," Olivar said.
A source said that Olivar got mad at one of Abrigana's classmates who was seated infront of her. When the teacher threw the decorative shell, the student infront of Abrigana dodged and the shell hit her in the nose. - Ramil V. Ayuman
