Depressed woman, man commit suicide

The bodies of a woman and a man believed to have committed suicide in barangay Kinasang-an and in barangay Cogon this city, separately, were discovered.

The Homicide section first responded to a suicide alarm in sitio All Season, barangay Cogon wherein a 28-year-old woman identified as Nenita Rojas was found hanging from a wire tied around the wooden beam inside her shanty.

Homicide investigator SPO3 Alex Dacua told The FREEMAN that the victim was last seen early Tuesday morning having drinks with her live-in partner identified as one Jasmin Espina Veloso outside their shanty.

Later on, Veloso's other live-in partner identified only as Allan arrived and the three reportedly had a brief talk on their relationships.

Dacua believed that Allan wanted to take Veloso away from Rojas.

Neighbors of Rojas identified as Ronilo Rejoy, Jon Jovit Pasencia and Jeremias Sumiling who happened to pass by her shanty saw her hanging from the wooden beam.

It was said that they tried to save her by cutting the wire, but Rojas was already dead. Dacua said they will look for Veloso and her reported live-in partner Allan to shed light on the incident since they were the last people the victim had a talk with before the incident.

Thirty minutes later, a former barangay tanod of Kinasang-an, Pardo identified as Teofilo Jumao-as Jr., 60 years old, and a widower was found dead inside his room.

His son Noel, 34, told Dacua that he heard a single gunshot from his father's room. When they checked on the said room, they found the victim sprawled on his bed with a wound on the right temple. He was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center, but was declared dead on arrival.

Police found a homemade .38 caliber snub-nose revolver with one empty shell and three live ammunitions inside its chamber believed to be the weapon used by the victim in shooting his head.
