Mandaue tops tax collection in Region 7

Mandaue City tops in Real Property Tax collection for the first quarter of 2006, beating 12 other cities in Region VII.

Based on the data released by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, Mandaue collected P98,762,713, exceeding the target collection of P41,116,000 for the quarter.

Mayor Thadeo Ouano said the city's tax collection efficiency is a result of its intensified tax campaign.

"I am thanking our taxpayers for paying their taxes correctly and promptly ug kadtong wa pa gyud kabayad, pamayad na intawon mo," Ouano said.

The city government has created a Tax Compliance Task Force to ensure that taxpayers pay their taxes. Barangay officials were also authorized to inspect business permits in their respective barangays.

The city of Cebu came in fourth with an actual revenue of P264,609,344.60 for the first quarter. Its target collection for this period was P162,385,200.

Lapu-Lapu City ranked eighth in real property tax collection with an actual revenue of P56,144,194.55 against their target collection of P48,017,400 over the same period.

The city of Talisay came in ninth with an actual collection of P9,172,502 with the target collection set at P4,282,700 for the same period. - Mitchelle P. Calipayan
