3 killed in road accidents

A grade five pupil of a public school, a juvenile who works as an assistant for a softdrinks delivery truck, and a 32-year-man were killed in separate road accidents in the city and province last Friday.

Killed were Kiven Ruflo, 10, a grade V pupil of barangay Estaca, Compostela, Jolito Timonyo, 17, single, of Lutoban, Davao del Sur who assists in the delivery of softdrinks, and Gilbert Lanas, 32, married, of barangay Tubod, Perrelos, Carcar.

Ruflo was crossing a street when a jeepney, driven by one Jovenal Castro, hit him, PO1 Fidelito Jopia of Compostela police station said.

Timonyo was unloading cases of softdrinks from his truck when a prime mover, loaded with a 40-footer container van and driven by Rico Villegas, 26, of Pier 4, sideswiped him. SPO1 Temoteo Quirol of the traffic section of Mandaue City Police Office said Villegas has surrendered.

On the other hand, Lanas was strolling along a road in Perrelos, Carcar when a speeding taxicab hit him. PO2 Democrito Alcover of Carcar police station said the taxi cab just sped away after the incident. - Gregg M. Rubio
