Econg to pursue case vs taxi firm
July 1, 2006 | 12:00am
With or without the complainants, Talisay City would pursue the action against a taxi company which stores up liquefied petroleum gas in its building as fuel for its cabs without securing a permit.
The complainants, who had alleged that the LPG poses danger to the neighborhood, were to meet with City Legal Officer Aurora Econg at her office yesterday. But not one of them showed up.
"If dili na motunga ang complainant it does not mean mana ang kaso (If the complainants do not show up, it doesn't mean there is no case)," Econg said.
She said the city does not condone such activities as exposed by the firm.
Econg said that the absence of a permit to store up LPG makes the operation of Juscar Taxi Company illegal.
Earlier, Paul Lao, the firm's manager, said the Department of Labor and Employment Inspections Standard Division had granted his company a permit to install an LPG storage tank.
Econg, however, said the company in barangay Tabunok has to comply with the regulations of the city, which includes the application for clearances.
The city has found out that Juscar lacks a permit for its dispensing area, a questionable area because it is where the storage tank has been installed, Econg said.
Other alleged violations include the lack of sanitary and location permits. The company was given a permit to build a structure but has no permit for its second structure, which stands within its premises.
Another meeting with Juscar and the complainants had been set for next week. - Liv G. Campo
