Police extend full alert status
June 14, 2006 | 12:00am
The regional police office is still under the full alert status even after the observance of the 108th Independence Day last Monday.
Regional police director Silverio Alarcio, Jr. issued the extension of the full alert status following the bombing of a police station in Metro Manila.
Alarcio ordered city and provincial police directors and other police unit chiefs in the region to institute security measures for vital installations, and to submit an assessment report every four hours.
The region was under full alert, starting at noon last Sunday, in anticipation of the Independence Day activities, including the protest rallies.
A day before the celebration, two explosions rocked Metro Manila and Batangas, prompting the authorities to tighten the security.
Alarcio ordered S/Supt. Carmelo Valmoria, the chief of the regional police operations and plans division, to raise the alert level from heightened to full.
In his memorandum, Valmoria instructed all police units to tighten security of vital installations and other structures that are targets for terrorist attacks, and to strengthen intelligence gathering. - Gregg M. Rubio
