Jealousy drives man to shoot wife and self

A man killed himself after gunning down his wife inside their rented house in Consolacion town last Saturday afternoon.

At around 2 o'clock in the afternoon, Antonio Quiapo dela Cerna, 36, reportedly shot his wife, Marilyn Ecleo dela Cerna, 31, at Quiapo Compound, barangay Cansaga in Consolacion.

Initial investigation revealed that the couple had a heated argument inside their house due to jealousy.

The husband then took his .38 caliber snub nose revolver and shot his wife hitting her on her head and hip causing her instantaneous death.

Probably feeling guilty after shooting his wife, Antonio put the gun into his mouth and committed suicide.

The couple left three children.

Responding policemen led by SPO4 Felix Lapera were able to recover the hand gun, which still contained one live bullet aside from three empty shells. Also recovered was a Nokia cellular phone owned by Marilyn.

The police are still doing further investigation to ascertain the real cause of the squabble that led to the death of the couple. - Gregg M. Rubio
