Cebu, Lapu-Lapu city jails to get part of P10.2M fund

The jails of Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City are some of the beneficiaries set to receive close to P.5 million for the repair and improvement of its facilities.

President Gloria Arroyo has released a total of P10,227,256.25 for the repair and improvement of city, district and municipal jails nationwide from her standby fund.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology chief director Arturo Alit said a total of P7.6-million was allocated for the improvement of 16 female jail facilities in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, ARMM, CAR and NCR.

Alit said Lapu-Lapu City Jail and Cebu was allotted P400,000 for improvements and repair.

In his report, Alit also said doctors from the BJMP National Office will conduct medical and dental mission to the different jails nationwide following the release of P2 million for the purchase of medicines and medical and dental supplies.

Alit said the region with biggest jail population got the highest share in the P2 million fund for the medical and dental mission. He said the Central Visayas will only receive P200,600. - Garry B. Lao
