A sari-sari storeowner was stabbed to death in barangay Bojo, Aloguinsan town Saturday evening reportedly by a relative who attempted to burglarize her store, while occupants of a house in Santander town claimed they were also burglarized Saturday dawn, losing personal belongings worth around P80,000 including cash and jewelry.
Alejandra Carcuevas, single, 53, resident of said area, died after being stabbed at least 16 times in different parts of her body.
Initial investigation led by SPO2 Ronald Almazan revealed that Carcuevas was stabbed to death after she shouted for help when she noticed the suspect inside her house. The suspect fled immediately after the incident.
However, Insp. Vicente Velasquez, the town's officer in charge, told The Freeman that they were able to arrest the suspect 9 a.m. yesterday and identified him as a certain Jonathan Pelago, 24, a former utility worker at the municipal hall, also a resident of the place.
Velasquez revealed that the suspect, who is a close relative of the victim was arrested in a follow-up operation, hiding at his residence just across the victim's house.
Velasquez explained that the suspect gained entry at the main door of the variety store, and that they are looking at two possible motives of the incident.
First is robbery since the victim owned a variety store. The other is that Pelago could have harbored a grudge against the victim. But, he pointed out they are still conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the real motive of the incident.
Meanwhile, in Santander town, Rolando Bureros, 63, a resident of sitio Sta. Cruz, barangay Poblacion and his daughter and in-law sought the help of the town police Saturday morning after their house was reportedly burglarized by unidentified men who made off with their personal belongings estimated to be worth P80,000.
Bureros told police that at 6 am Saturday, they discovered that unidentified culprits detached six pieces of blades from their jalousie window. They immediately inspected their belongings and later found out that assorted jewelry, a digital camera, three cellular phones, cash worth P3,500, four credit cards, two ATM cards, and two pieces ladies watch were missing.
