Man arrested for striking brother's head with stone

A man was arrested Sunday evening for striking the head of his younger brother with a stone in barangay Liki, Sogod town.

Amancio Povadora allegedly hit his brother, Iluminado, in the head with a stone following a heated argument earlier that day.

Initial investigation conducted by the Sogod policemen led by PO3 Jesus Bontilao revealed that after the argument, the victim went to his nipa hut, located a few meters away from the suspect's house, to sleep.

At around 11 a.m., while the victim was sleeping, the suspect went to his nipa hut and, without any apparent reason, struck his head with a stone several times. Responding barangay officials and tanods immediately rushed the victim to the hospital.

Elements of the Sogod police then arrested Amancio at his house. The suspect is now detained at the town's police station pending the filing of appropriate charges against him.

PO3 Elymar Mendoza told The Freeman that his investigation revealed that the suspect and the victim were having a heated argument about the former's carabao.

Mendoza said that the suspect's neighbors told them that he was mentally ill. "Motukar kuno ni siya usahay matud sa mga silingan."

Mendoza added that when he asked Amancio about his age, the suspect revealed he is already on his 60s. But the policeman did not believe him because the suspect looks like he is in his late 40s or early 50s based on his physical appearance.

Mendoza, on the other hand, said they were dismayed about the late information of the incident they received from the barangay officials and tanods.
